Want Ag? Poway High Delivers!

Many students and parents are surprised to learn that Poway High has an Agriculture Department, even though many teachers and business owners in our community have participated in the program over the years. Recently however, the agricultural program at the high school has been reduced to a part-time status, as educators continue to encourage students to pursue more traditional mainstream classes.

This change has many parents and community members concerned about the future of the Poway High Ag Department and in response, the Poway High Ag Partners, a not for profit organization, was formed to increase awareness and enrollment in the Ag department through education, marketing and financial support. The Poway High Ag Partners are dedicated to providing public educational and financial support to the Poway High agriculture program, focusing on life skills, leadership and career objectives to produce successful leaders of the future. This year's agricultural program will offer Ag Science I/II, Vet Science with an equine science emphasis and Floral Design. The Ag Science I/II class is designed to introduce students to the agriculture industry and covers a basic view of Ag related topics such as animal science, plant science, leadership skills and the National FFA Organization. This course requires a strong science background and covers animal health related topics with an equine emphasis and will prepare students for entry level positions in the vet science and/or animal science industries. In addition, Ag Leadership and Fair Projects are offered as 6.5 period classes which meet after school two days a week and carry 2.5 elective units. For more information on the Ag curriculum, visit our registration page or contact Ms. Kerr through Poway High School at mkerr@powayusd.com for information on how to transfer into the Ag program.
